According to recent data, Asia was the second-largest destination for China’s solar parts in the first half of 2024. China exported 32,108 MW of solar module capacity to Asia which was 86% more than during the first half of 2023. The interesting thing is that Pakistan dominated the rest of the countries in opting for solar energy. Pakistan was Asia’s largest single market for solar modules. It was reported that during the first half of 2024, Pakistan imported 10,450 MW of solar module capacity. 

Pakistan also left India behind, which accounted for 8,324 MW of solar module capacity. The country had around a 200% increase in their solar adoption as compared to last year which was 720,000 MW. This is a huge step towards a greener future for Pakistan.

It was 20% lower than last year’s imports because of certain factors like trade tensions with China and high interest rates. Despite that Europe’s purchase of solar modules was still high. While Pakistan dominated the Asia market, the Netherlands dominated the European market for solar adoption. Brazil was also ranked as one of China’s largest markets, with 10, 511 MW of capacity. The country had a 10% increase as compared to last year.

Similarly, China’s exports to the Middle East were also high. From 2022 to 2023, China’s exports of solar modules to the Middle East exceeded 10 GW. In the first four months of 2024, China exported 10.3 GW of modules to the Middle East, representing a year-on-year increase of 180%.
